Upon visiting the meusuem the first interactive display which i noticed was stood on a plinth in the middle of the room, the actual design and placement of this was very well executed, by catching my eye im sure it would have the same effect on others. When i began to use the display itself i noticed a number of pro's and con's which i will take into consideration for the installation we are doing.
The first of these was that the little audio which was being played was very difficult to hear as the speakers themselves where in the bottom of the screen, in the consideration of audio design, especially if the designer plans to use audio to enchance the users experience it is neccersary that the sound is prominent, easy to understand and clear, regardless of the users position or height.
After progressing further into the interactive display i was impressed with the visuals which where being displayed on the screen, they were extremely bright and invited the user to browse the screen however on further exploration of the system this original excitement of colourful touch buttons began to wear off, as the interactive section of the design simply involved pressing a button in response to a question, a system which would become repetitve and perhaps a little dry to even the most patient of users.
If an adult where to play this game then they may have read the large selection of information that this system offered however in consideration of all age groups if i had visited this setup myself at the age of 14 ( the beggining of our target age range ) i would not have read through all of the information on the screen, partially as i would be expecting excitement from the bright display but mainly becuase i wouldn't want to just read, id rather interact and discover information throughout, reading large portions of texts seems easier to do in a book.
In terms of how friendly the interface was i found that i could easily navigate the system however i am used to touch screen technology, if somebody without such understanding approached the display i would fear that they may be puzzled as to how the system works.
In conclusion to this system after i evaluated it, i would regard it as a good example of touch screen interactivity for the older user, it was well presented and executed i just felt it lacked excitement for the younger audience, which when attempting to educate such audience in a musuem via an interactive display, excitement and un-predictability is a must.
With this said, thier was another large game in the museum on a big screen which seemed more entertaining but due to work commitments i was unable to review this in depth, from what i could see again this was well executed with bright colours and a much more interactive element, further review of this shall follow.
